Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens participate equally—either directly or indirectly through elected representatives—in the proposal, development, and creation of laws. So yes, it is still the best form of government in my opinion. In a democratic government you do not have women getting stoned in the street for showing a patch of skin at the wrong place and the wrong time.
You have fairness and a sense of order and control.

Well, Democracy itself means that everyone gets an equal say in whatever is being brought forward. A Republic, is where you elect someone to represent the wishes of the community, or state. There is a difference plubius3. I believe you are confusing the two.
The United States itself is a Federal Republic, and Constitutional Republic. Not Democratic. On the local and state level, it is more democratic, but even then, you have people representing you on the state level, for the community.
Democracy in itself can be good, but can also be bad. Why? if the morality of the nation itself is bad, then it would be VERY easy to vote for things that can ruin the nation as a whole.
